For some reason I associate this painting with Kyoto. There is no real reason for it, but I do. It evokes a feeling of mystery, the fusion of tradition and modernism, the nature’s beauty and man made temples, the geishas and the minimalist coffee places, the certain quest for excellence and a feeling of flow… And the story, when I was having tea and journaling in an quaint coffeeshop, part an art gallery, a Japanese woman came out from the back of the store, looked at me with a puzzled expression and asked in a broken English whether it was my first time in Kyoto, I said yes… she looked at me for a few seconds and said, “but I know you”… And then after a quick hesitation she disappeared again behind the door… And I felt, yes, it’s true, there is something magical about Kyoto that goes behind what meets the eye, far into the mystery of unknown…
